SUMMARY:2.	The Importance of Gender Neutral Language in the Movement to End Domestic and Sexual Violence
DESCRIPTION:In order to be truly inclusive and serve all survivors\, the importance of gender neutral language is critical.  We must expand our language and unlearn gendered discussion of survivors in order to make sure that we are opening our doors to male survivors\, trans survivors and gender non-conforming survivors.  Changing language is one step towards being truly inclusive in our movement\, and this webinar will give concrete tips on how to do that\, as well as new terminology. \n  \nThis training was supported by Grant No. 15JOVW-22-GG-00914-MUMU awarded by the Office on Violence against Women\, U.S. Department of Justice.  The opinions\, findings\, conclusions\, and recommendations expressed in the publication are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily the views of the Department of Justice\, Office on Violence Against Women.reflect

SUMMARY:Save the Date and Register for NCEDSV's Annual Conference Starting July 1.
DESCRIPTION:Save the date and join the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) for a 3-day conference September 19-21\, 2023\, at the Nugget in Reno NV. \nWe all know the importance of self-care; without first serving our own needs\, we are not able to bring our full selves in our pursuit of service to others. And while self-care is crucial to the work that we do\, it is not enough. We exist in community\, and support is crucial for our own well-being. In order to truly uproot systems of violence\, we need to come from a place of community care. Touchstones of community care include using our power\, privilege and resources to do better for people in and out of our scope of reach. It is coming from a place of interdependence\, building connection with others\, and centering those who are most marginalized. This year’s conference will center the foundations of community care and remind us that survivors thrive when communities work together.

SUMMARY:National Week of Action for MMIWG
DESCRIPTION:Since 2017\, grassroots actions on May 5th to honor and call for justice for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG) have increasingly grown at the local\, regional\, national\, and international level. Native families\, advocates\, and Indigenous nations continue to challenge the widespread apathy\, complicity\, and tolerance of their abuse in response that is the crisis of MMIWG. Will you join the Week of Action this year? In doing so\, you can pledge to donate to a local tribal group\, sign up to learn new things at a workshop\, read suggested books and more! Remember\, nobody is free and equal until we are all free and equal. \nHowever\, according to a 2021 summary of existing research by the National Congress of American Indians\, Native American women and girls face murder rates almost three times that of White women overall\, and up to ten times the national average in some locations. The true number may never be known though\, as there is a distrust of law enforcement among some indigenous groups. Learn more and do better to support all people today!

SUMMARY:Teen Relationship Abuse in the Trans and Non-Binary Community
DESCRIPTION:When talking about teen dating violence\, it is important to consider how folks from marginalized identities may be affected. Trans and non-binary teenagers are more likely than their peers to experience bullying\, harassment and engage in survival sex due to their identity not being understood or respected.  In this webinar\, we will learn terminology\, identify differences between sex and gender\, review how microaggressions affect trans and non-binary survivors\, and understand ways in which you can support as an adult ally. \nComplimentary CEUs are available to all members. CEU’s for non-members are a $35 fee. If you plan on attending more than one training a year\, consider joining as an NCEDSV Member to receive complimentary CEUs: https://www.ncedsv.org/ceus. \nThis training was supported by the Nevada State Division of Public and Behavioral Health through Grant Number 1 NB01OT009495-01-00 from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. SUMMARY:Know More\, Do More: Recognizing and Responding to Stalking on School Campuses
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nThis presentation will discuss the key elements of stalking – an aspect of domestic and sexual violence often not identified or fully addressed by advocates. Stalking needs to become a top priority because of its potential lethality in violent relationships. According to the Stalking Prevention\, Awareness\, and Resource Center (SPARC\,) “Stalking is one of the few crimes where early intervention can prevent violence and death.” Dana Fleitman\, M.A.Ed.H.D.\, Training and Awareness Specialist from SPARC\, is presenting this engaging workshop. She will be covering the prevalence of stalking\, co-victimization\, and tips for understanding stalking behavior among adolescents and college-aged adults. \nComplimentary CEUs are available to all members.  CEU’s for non-members are a $35 fee.  If you plan on attending more than one training a year\, consider joining as an NCEDSV Member to receive complimentary CEUs:  https://www.ncedsv.org/ceus\nThis project was supported by Grant No. 2017-TA-AX-K074 awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women\, U.S. Department of Justice. The opinions\, findings\, conclusions\, and recommendations expressed in this program are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Department of Justice\, Office on Violence Against Women.

SUMMARY:Panel Discussion on Economic Justice as a Tool for Violence Prevention
DESCRIPTION:As we draw near to the 2023 Legislative Session\, the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) invites you to join the Nevada Economic Justice Workgroup\, content experts\, and victim-survivors of power-based violence from across the state for an informative panel on economic equity as a tool for violence prevention. \nRobust economic opportunities are the foundation for strong and healthy communities contributing to violence prevention. Over the past year\, the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) convened an inclusive statewide Economic Justice Workgroup to address inequities and challenges in order to prevent violence. Knowing that working in silos leads to failure\, this workgroup leans into organizational strengths to highlight the intersections of our individual missions to collaboratively address violence caused by economic inequity. This group of untraditional anti-violence and anti-oppression agencies has identified five policy areas Nevadans should focus efforts on to increase economic opportunities as tools for violence prevention: \n\nAccess to affordable and available mental health providers\nIncrease state revenue to raise public benefit levels and supports\nComprehensive\, medically accurate sex and health education\nAccess to safe and affordable housing\nIncreasing workplace equity and supports\n\nThe panel will feature content experts on all five of NCEDSV’s Economic Justice Workgroup policy priority topics and will discuss the challenges Nevada is currently facing\, the impacts on victim-survivors of power-based violence\, and the need to prioritize policies related to these issues. Register today! \n

SUMMARY:Understanding Political Advocacy and Effective Engagement with Policymakers
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_wp_text]In preparation for the 2023 Legislative Session\, NCDESV invites you to attend our Advocacy 101 Webinar: Understanding Political Advocacy and Effective Engagement with Policymakers. This webinar will focus on the differences between direct and grassroots lobbying and how and why non-profit organizations should engage in lobbying. More importantly\, this webinar will give attendees the tools and resources to understand the Nevada State Legislature and how to engage with legislators to influence policy effectively. \nPolitical advocacy is one of the most effective ways to encourage and influence change within a cause or movement. Every day\, laws are passed and implemented at the state and federal levels that directly affect our communities and the clients we serve. Engaging in the legislative process is crucial in that it: \n\nEnsures that victim-survivor voices are heard\, and their needs are centered.\nAllows us to elevate marginalized communities; and\,\nGives us a platform to educate on the need for violence prevention.\n\nThis webinar will be recorded and sent out if you cannot attend live. \n  \nREGISTER HERE[/vc_wp_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
