Furthermore\, we will share how prostitution and sex trafficking negatively impacts the Hawaiian community by sexualizing cultural practices and viewing women as property\, which is not a belief held by Native Hawaiians. \nThe National Partners Work Group on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) and the MMIW Family Advisors are organizing a National Week of Action (April 29-May 5\, 2022) to call the nation and the world to action in honor of missing and murdered Indigenous women. Take action by participating in these virtual events and organizing additional actions in your communities on and around May 5th. SUMMARY:National Briefing: Addressing the Crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_wp_text] \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (NIWRC) invites you to learn more about the complex and ongoing Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) crisis. \nThe current systemic response to violence against Native women is inadequate and the rate at which we are losing our women is devastating to our tribal communities and to the Nation as a whole. Insufficient resources and lack of clarity on jurisdictional responsibilities have exacerbated efforts to locate those who are missing. The federal Indian legal framework is complex and creates many barriers for victims and Tribes working to protect their citizens. Moreover\, resources are scarce and culturally appropriate services are practically non-existent. Please join us as we listen to victim-survivors and family members\, victim service providers\, Tribal judges\, and members of Congress discuss national policy issues and recommendations in support of Tribal Nations to enhance safety for Native women. \nREGISTER \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_wp_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Training - Opening the Door: Believe Our Truth
DESCRIPTION:Click here to register now \nDescription \nJoin the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) in our efforts to increase awareness of abuse against adolescents and young adults for this one session virtual webinar. This presentation will give attendees a basic understanding of disabilities and how adolescents and young adults with developmental disabilities are targeted for abuse. \nAppropriate intervention strategies will be shared to improve communication between the survivor and the advocate. In addition\, tips will be offered to help supporters for people with disabilities understand the effects and consequences of trauma. Best practices will be highlighted to ensure people with developmental disabilities are receiving survivor-centered\, trauma-informed assistance that promotes healing. \nRegistration ends Friday\, April 22 at 3:00PM. Social work and batterer’s treatment CEUs (2.0 hours) are currently pending. \nObjectives – The participant will be able to: \n1. Define the term developmental disability and how it differs from other disabilities. \n2. Review and identify the key elements of domestic violence and how young adults with disabilities may become targets for abusive behavior and how the risk factors and warning signs may differ. \n3. Identify at least 3 accommodations that will increase communication between the survivor with developmental disabilities and the advocate. \n4. Apply their current knowledge and skills to a young adult survivor with unique needs. \n5. Explain the similarities and differences for issues affecting young adults with developmental disabilities such as confidentiality\, mandated and self-reporting. \n6. At times\, these differences form barriers to services and the goal is to create a collaborative effort between community and systems-based domestic and sexual violence agencies as well as agencies such as an independent living center and/or adult protective services\, etc. \n7. Review a list national\, state\, and local resources that will help the advocate learn more about offering appropriate trauma-informed services.
