SUMMARY:Opening the Door: Believe Our Truth
DESCRIPTION:Description \nJoin the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) in our efforts to increase awareness of abuse against adolescents and young adults with disabilities. This popular presentation will give attendees a basic understanding of disabilities and how adolescents and young adults with developmental disabilities are targeted for abuse. Appropriate intervention strategies will be shared to improve communication between the survivor and the advocate. In addition\, tips will be offered to help the individual’s support person or caregiver understand the effects and consequences of trauma. Best practices will be highlighted to ensure people with developmental disabilities are receiving survivor-centered\, trauma-informed assistance that promotes healing. \nFacilitators:\nElaine Brown\, PhD\, FAAIDD\, Chief Psychologist\, Nevada Department of Health and Human Services Aging and Disabilities Services Division | Developmental Services and Judy Henderson\, MEd. SUMMARY:Coaching Boys into Men: An Evidence-Based Approach to Leveraging Sports to Promote Healthy Relationships and Prevent Abuse
DESCRIPTION:Description \nCoaching Boys Into Men (CBIM) is the only evidence-based program that trains and motivates athletic coaches of young men’s sports teams to promote healthy relationships and positive bystander intervention through 12 weekly discussions. Integrated easily into the sports season\, CBIM is a manageable program for coaches and can create positive cultural change to the culture of teams as well as the surrounding community. Topics addressed include: Respect and Personal Responsibility; Disrespectful Behavior Towards Women and Girls; Understanding Consent; Conflict and Communication; and more. During this session\, we will discuss the core elements of the CBIM\, how to build local support for the program\, and the program’s extensive community of practice that new implementers can connect with and learn from. \nThe presenter is Jesse Mahler. DESCRIPTION:When talking about teen dating violence\, it is important to consider how folks from marginalized identities may be affected. Trans and non-binary teenagers are more likely than their peers to experience bullying\, harassment and engage in survival sex due to their identity not being understood or respected.  In this webinar\, we will learn terminology\, identify differences between sex and gender\, review how microaggressions affect trans and non-binary survivors\, and understand ways in which you can support as an adult ally. \nComplimentary CEUs are available to all members.
