Note about events amid COVID-19: NCEDSV is staying up-to-date on the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and plans to follow public health guidelines for our Regional Trainings in May and our Annual Conference in September. Presenters, drawn from a pool of local and regional experts, share experiences and best practices on a wide variety of public health issues.

The Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) is partnering with Aequitas, a national technical assistance provider for prosecuting attorneys, and the National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women to present a two-day, hands-on training for potential expert witnesses and prosecuting attorneys for domestic violence and sexual assault cases.
This training will pair prosecuting attorneys with experts in victim services including clinical mental health professionals, victim advocates, social workers, and academic researchers.
The training will explain Victim Behaviors in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault cases. Specifically, how to:
- recognize victim behaviors that may require explanation at trial
- manage jury or judicial biases or pre-conceived notions of expected and stereotyped victim behavior.
- educate juries and judges about victim behaviors and myths.
- Strategies for Testifying
- Testimony Preparation
- Making expert testimony accessible for judges and juries.
- Attorneys and experts will work in pairs to prepare for direct, cross examination, and redirect testimony.
This training is for direct service professionals and university-level researchers with a minimum of five (5) years’ direct service or research experience. Additionally, it is highly recommended that individuals who are interested in becoming expert witnesses complete NCEDSV’s online Expert Witness program consisting of 10 online webinars and assessments prior to the training.
