Every October, the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) joins advocates, partners, and communities across the state in recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). This year’s national theme, “Every1 Knows Some1,” is a powerful reminder that domestic violence touches all communities, regardless of age, race, gender, background, or socioeconomic status.
Domestic violence is not a private issue; it’s a public one. Chances are, everyone knows someone who has been impacted, a friend, family member, neighbor, colleague, or even ourselves. By bringing awareness to the realities of domestic violence and uplifting survivor voices, we can continue to break the silence, challenge stigma, and build communities rooted in safety, respect, and accountability.
“Domestic Violence Awareness Month gives us the opportunity to honor survivors, strengthen partnerships, and remind Nevadans that ending violence is a shared responsibility,” said Elizabeth Abdur-Raheem, Executive Director of NCEDSV. “Everyone has a role to play in prevention, because everyone knows someone.”
Throughout October, NCEDSV and our member organizations will host events and campaigns to raise awareness, foster community action, and support those affected by domestic violence.
Highlights include:
Go Purple Day – October 16: Wear purple to show solidarity with survivors and share photos using #Every1KnowsSome1 and #DVAM2025.
Community Fundraiser: Visit any Mothership Coffee location and order the Sip with a Purpose Pumpkin White Mocha Latte, proceeds will support NCEDSV’s work to prevent and end domestic violence in Nevada.
Workshops, Trainings, and Community Events: Opportunities for advocates, providers, and community members to learn, connect, and take action.
We invite everyone across Nevada to stand with us this month, to educate, advocate, and act. Together, we can build a future where safety and dignity are the standard for every person.

The Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) is honored to announce that Governor Joe Lombardo has officially proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) in the State of Nevada.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Governor Lombardo and his office for recognizing the ongoing efforts of advocates, service providers, and survivors working every day to end domestic violence and support those affected.
This year’s national theme, “Every1 Knows Some1,” reminds us that domestic violence impacts people in every community—and that each of us has a role in creating safety, compassion, and accountability.
NCEDSV encourages all Nevadans to participate in awareness activities throughout October, explore our DVAM event calendar, and join us in amplifying the message that ending domestic violence requires everyone’s voice and action.
