We all know the importance of self-care; without first serving our own needs, we are not able to bring our full selves in our pursuit of service to others. And while self-care is crucial to the work that we do, it is not enough. We exist in community, and support is crucial for our own well-being. In order to truly uproot systems of violence, we need to come from a place of community care. Touchstones of community care include using our power, privilege and resources to do better for people in and out of our scope of reach. It is coming from a place of interdependence, building connection with others, and centering those who are most marginalized. This year’s conference will center the foundations of community care and remind us that survivors thrive when communities work together.
